効率 / efficiency

効率(こうりつ / kōritsu) means efficiency, and in the context of typing, it’s about how smoothly and effectively you can get words from your head onto the screen with minimal wasted effort. In Japanese typing, even if you’re fast and experienced, efficiency is affected by the unavoidable conversion step. You need to stop, look at the screen, and choose the correct kanji. So, while Japanese typing can still be very efficient and accurate, its 効率 works a little differently compared to English, where you can often type continuously without interruption.
