買いだめ / Stockpiling or panic buying
買いだめ (kaidame) refers to buying and storing large quantities of goods in advance, often due to fear of shortages or price hikes. It’s common during natural disasters, pandemics, or sales events.
While 買いだめ can be a practical way to prepare, excessive stockpiling may lead to supply issues or social criticism, especially if it leaves shelves empty for others.
