更新 / renewal
更新 (kōshin) means “update” or “renewal” and is used in many contexts—from updating a website or software (サイトを更新する), to renewing contracts, licenses, or subscriptions (パスポートを更新する). In daily life and work, 更新 reflects the act of keeping things current, fresh, and valid—an important part of staying organized and up to date in modern Japan.
