影響 / influence
影響 (eikyō) refers to the effect, influence, or impact something has on someone or something else. It can be positive or negative, direct or subtle—like 天気の影響 (the impact of the weather) or 友人の影響 (influence from a friend). In both everyday conversation and formal writing, 影響 is a key word for describing cause-and-effect relationships.
