クマ (kuma) is the Japanese word for bear, referring to the large, powerful animal found in various regions of Japan, including Hokkaido and parts of Honshu. Bears are both respected and feared in Japanese culture, often appearing in folklore and rural safety warnings. Depending on the species, クマ can range from the smaller Asiatic black bear to the larger Hokkaido brown bear.
