上陸 / making landfall; landing
上陸 (jōriku) literally means “landing” or “coming ashore.” It’s used in various contexts—from typhoons making landfall (台風が上陸する) to people or products arriving in a new country or region. For example, when a foreign brand enters the Japanese market, it’s often described as 日本に上陸. The word carries a sense of arrival and presence, whether it’s weather, people, or ideas.
