反面教師 / inverted role model
反面教師 (hanmen kyōshi) refers to a “negative role model” — someone whose behavior or mistakes serve as an example of what not to emulate. Rather than inspiring admiration, a 反面教師 teaches valuable lessons by contrast, helping others avoid the same pitfalls. The term is often used in both personal growth and workplace contexts to highlight the importance of learning from others’ failures.
