在宅ワーク (zaitaku wāku) refers to working from home or remote work, a style of employment where tasks are done outside the traditional office, usually from one’s residence. While it gained popularity globally during the pandemic, 在宅ワーク continues to be a common setup in Japan for freelancers, telecommuters, and some corporate employees. It offers flexibility, reduces commuting time, and supports a better work-life balance—but also comes with challenges like self-discipline and communication.
