These three terms refer to common types of leave available to workers in Japan:
産休 (sankyū) – Maternity leave, typically starting 6 weeks before childbirth and continuing for 8 weeks after.
育休 (ikukyū) – Childcare leave, which allows parents (both mothers and fathers) to take extended time off to care for their child, often up to the child’s first birthday or beyond.
有給 (yūkyū) – Paid leave or paid vacation days, which employees can use for rest, travel, or personal matters.
