私人逮捕 / citizen's arrest
私人逮捕 (shijin taiho) refers to a citizen’s arrest—when a private individual detains someone caught in the act of committing a crime. Under Japanese law, this is allowed in cases of genkōhan (a crime in progress), even without a warrant. While legal, shijin taiho must be carried out carefully, as excessive force or wrongful detention can lead to legal consequences for the arresting person.
