受信料 / reception fee
受信料 (jushinryō) refers to the reception fee charged by NHK, Japan’s national public broadcaster. Anyone with a TV or device capable of receiving NHK broadcasts is legally required to pay this fee, which helps fund commercial-free programming. While sometimes debated, 受信料 supports NHK’s role in providing news, educational content, and emergency broadcasts across Japan.
